![]() ![]() Let me tell you something that's true of every one of us, we were all born dead. This may surprise you because it almost sounds like a disconnect. Now, the other kind of death the Bible speaks about is spiritual death. ![]() So, physical death is the separation of the soul and spirit from the body. So, all right, I'm glad to hear you laugh. He says, "Well, what could be worse than that? What's the worse news"? He said, "We've been looking for you since yesterday". He said, "Well," he said, "we've looked at your tests and you have you have 48 hours to live". What news would you like to have first"? And he said, "Give me the bad news". He says, "Well, what do you mean"? He says, "Well, I have bad news, and they have worse news. I heard about a doctor who went to see young man and he says, "I've just examined your reports, and I have bad news and worse news". Let's just kind of, I'll tell you this little story that'll lighten it up a little bit. So, I know this is kind of a serious subject, but we don't have to be so serious about it. Someone has rightly made this observation that death is the number one killer in America. But that hasn't happened yet, so I can say with authority that death is 100%. The statistics regarding physical death are 100% except perhaps for Christians who will be alive at the Rapture. And let me tell you something, friends, I've been studying this very carefully. What is physical death? Physical death is the separation of the soul and the spirit from the body. Let's begin, first of all, with physical death. In every three instances where death is mentioned in the Bible, it always involves separation. Let me give you the key word for all three of them. In the Bible there are three different descriptions of death. Before we go any further, we need to discuss what we mean when we talk about death, the faces of death. What if I promised you that we could change forever the way that you look at death, perhaps move it out of the fear category all together? What if we would take on this subject for a few moments from the Bible and pull death out of the terrifying darkness once and for all? If you'll stay focused, I think I can do that because the Bible does that. So, join me for a look at Death: The Fear of Dying as we continue our series, "What Are You Afraid Of? Facing Down Your Fears With Faith" coming up right here on "Turning Point". I mean, you might just find that a new understanding of death can give you a new lease on life. Does the fear of dying keep you from truly living? I think you'll find comfort in today's message as we open God's Word and see death from our creator's point of view. Even we Christians who know that death is just the door to eternity are often uneasy about dying. I mean, we fear what we don't know and the biggest unknown in this life is death. Well, dying is certainly no laughing matter. How incredible! In His humility and hard work for us, our Shepherd tends to us and meets all our need!Īll day, every day, a shepherd’s task is to watch over the helpless flock.Someone once observed that life is pleasant, death is peaceful, it's the transition that's troublesome. The Lord works hard on our behalf, and He does so with humility. This unique glimpse into the past tells us shepherding was a hard and humble profession. His teeth were badly decayed, but his bones were sturdy and strong. Though it had healed, he walked with a limp. The man was just over five feet, and at one point he broke his leg. The shepherd used the arrows to hunt small game or birds to supplement his diet, and he wrapped and carried his bowl with him in order to mix and eat his food.Īlso nearby was a straw mat that served as a sleeping pad. ![]() On the bottom of the sandals was sheep’s dung.
